Ford PAS Alignment to Career Clusters Knowledge and Skills

These correlations match the knowledge and/or skills taught in the Ford PAS curriculum to the 16 States’ Career Clusters. In most cases, the Ford PAS knowledge and skills taught are correlated to the Measurement Criteria of each cluster. In some cases, however, the Performance Element was a better match than the Measurement Criteria.

Many of the career cluster Measurement Criteria and Performance Elements are written to fit the contexts of particular clusters, which do not always correspond to the context in which the knowledge/skills are taught in Ford PAS. For example, in the health science career cluster, several criteria fall under the Performance Element “Describe health care teams.” While the Ford PAS curriculum does not address health care teams in particular, the criteria, such as “Recognize characteristics of effective teams” and “Accept compromise as necessary to ensure a best outcome,” are skills taught in Ford PAS that students can transfer to working in the health science industry. Therefore, correlating Ford PAS to some of the Measurement Criteria and Performance Elements required judgment calls as to whether the general skill—which students can transfer from one context to others—was as important as the particular context .Where such judgments were made, the correlations are marked with one asterisk (*) to indicate that the criterion or element is taught in Ford PAS in a context other than that specified.

In addition, it is important to note that the rigor of the Ford PAS curriculum requires the application of many skills, including use of proper grammar, spelling, and syntax in written communications, that teachers regularly assess. These applied skills, which are not necessarily taught in Ford PAS but for which teachers using the Ford PAS materials are expected to hold students accountable, are identified with two asterisks (**) next to the criterion or element.
