2008 Summer Opportunities
Competitive Scholarship Programs available from Michigan Technological University’s Summer Youth Programs – Apply today at www.youthprograms.mtu.edu.
Application deadline is April 11, 2008.
Youth Programs is a division of Michigan Tech’s Educational Opportunity Department. Our primary goal is to excite precollege students about learning and higher education. During the school year, Youth Programs hosts educational events and programming for precollege students. Our busiest time is during the summer when we run Summer Youth Programs.
During the summer over one-thousand participants come to our campus from all over the nation and the world for discovery-based learning. University faculty, graduate students, role models, and other professionals lead hands-on activities, field trips, laboratory experiments and team projects. Each program is designed to challenge participants and encourage them to explore a world of opportunity. In 2007 we celebrated the 35th anniversary of Summer Youth Programs!
University of Detroit Mercy summer engineering camp for high school girls.
The Summer Technology Engineering Preview Summer camp for girls(STEPS Camp) is a five-day residential program for girls designed to (1) introduce young women to manufacturing, engineering, science, and robotics; (2) increase their interest in a career in one of these areas; (3) provide them with a positive university experience; (4) provide exposure to college professors and students; (5) improve their perception of engineering. The camp integrates a variety of activities for the campers – academic and social. The main project is robotics. The 2008 camp will use the LEGO Mindstorm NXT system and include a variety of academic labs -- Batteries, Programming, Sensors, Circuits, Welding, Machine Shop, Casting, and Motors. Students may select between two one-week sessions -- June 15-20 or 22-27.
